HCH.jpgShortly after hearing the Gospel through co-workers, in our neighborhood of Downtown Overland Park, a new coffee house opened - Homer's Coffee House. Homer's had been open two months. The warm atmosphere and very friendly staff, led by Jim & Louise Mathis, and the manager at that time, Zack Williamson and all the staff, were so very helpful with my endless questions about Jesus, God and His Word in the Bible.

I made a decision to turn away from my sins and trust Jesus Christ at Homer's Coffee House on 11/29/2001 at one of the many bible study groups that meets here each week.

Christian Business Men's Committee (CBMC) was founded in Chicago in 1930 with the purpose of presenting the claims of Jesus Christ to the business and professional community. Kansas City CBMC was formed in 1940. From the end of World War II to 1973, CBMC operated a Servicemens Center in downtown Kansas City, MO. The driving force behind the Servicemens Center was Homer Anderson. During Homers 25 years working at the Center, tens of thousands of young men made decisions to follow Christ.

In 1973, Homer's vision and passion shifted to community leadership events. Under Homer's guidance dozens of Mayor's Prayer Breakfast were begun throughout Kansas, Missouri, and beyond. Many of these are now major annual events, such as the Overland Park Mayor's Prayer Breakfast..

In 1981 Homer married career missionary Wilma Gardziella. Wilma had spent most of her career teaching nursing in Africa. Homer went to heaven on May 28, 2000 after a long struggle with Parkinsons disease.

It is our hope and prayer that Homer's passion, vision, love of people, and love of Jesus Christ will live on in Homer's Coffee House.
